Lauren Saunders is a Junior Professor at the Centre for Organismal Studies at Heidelberg University. Lauren received a B.A. in biology and Asian studies from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. She then studied vascular development in zebrafish as a technician in Victoria Bautch's lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lauren received her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular biology from the University of Washington in Seattle, where she worked in Dave Parichy's lab on the effects of thyroid hormone signaling on neural crest-derived pigment cell lineages in post-embryonic zebrafish. She conducted her postdoctoral work with Cole Trapnell in the Department of Genome Sciences, also at UW in Seattle, where she developed a workflow for high-resolution phenotyping of zebrafish mutants using single cell RNA-sequencing.
